UUID Generator

Generate random version 4 UUIDs, 1 to 50 at a time.

Get random UUIDs ready to paste

UUID Generator creates version 4 UUIDs — random 128-bit identifiers written as 36 characters, such as 3f2b8c1e-9d4a-4e6f-b1c7-5a0e2d9f8b34. You can make between 1 and 50 at a time and copy them individually or all together.

Each ID comes from your browser’s built-in crypto.randomUUID(), which uses a cryptographically secure random source. The IDs are created on your device, so nobody else has a record of which ones you were given.

How to generate UUIDs

  1. Five UUIDs are ready when the page opens.
  2. Enter a number from 1 to 50 in “How many?”. Changing it produces a fresh list.
  3. Click Generate whenever you want a new batch.
  4. Click the copy icon on a row to copy that UUID, or Copy all to copy the whole list with one UUID per line.

What you get

  • Format: lowercase hexadecimal in the standard 8-4-4-4-12 layout, with hyphens. There are no options for uppercase, braces or removing hyphens.
  • Version marker: the first character of the third group is always 4, which identifies a random (v4) UUID.
  • Copy all output: plain text, one UUID per line, ready to paste into a spreadsheet column or a script.

What people use UUIDs for

  • Database keys: give records an ID that won’t collide even when created on different servers.
  • Test fixtures: fill seed data or mock API responses with realistic IDs.
  • Idempotency and request IDs: tag API calls so a retry can be recognised as the same request.
  • File and object names: avoid name clashes when storing uploads.

UUID background

What “version 4” means

A UUID’s version says how it was made. Version 1 is built from a timestamp and a machine identifier, version 4 from random numbers, and version 7 from a timestamp followed by random bits so the values sort in creation order. Version 4 reveals nothing about when or where it was generated.

Can two UUIDs ever be the same?

In principle, yes; in practice, no. A v4 UUID has 122 random bits, giving about 5.3 × 10³⁶ possible values. You would need to generate roughly 2.7 × 10¹⁸ of them before the chance of even one duplicate reached 50%.

UUID Generator: common questions

Is a UUID the same as a GUID?

Yes, for practical purposes. GUID is the name Microsoft uses for the same 128-bit format. Some Windows tools show GUIDs in uppercase or wrapped in braces, but the value is the same.

Can I generate more than 50 at once?

Not in one go — larger numbers are capped at 50. Click Generate again and use Copy all for each batch.

Should I use a UUID as a password or secret token?

The UUIDs made here come from a secure random source, so they’re hard to guess, but UUIDs are designed as identifiers and often end up in URLs and logs. For a password, the Password Generator lets you choose the length and character types.

Can I get v1 or v7 UUIDs here?

No. This tool only generates version 4. If you need IDs that sort by creation time, generate v7 in your application code.
