Rotate PDF
Rotate all or selected pages of a PDF.
Files are processed entirely in your browser — they're never uploaded to a server.
Turn sideways or upside-down PDF pages the right way up
Rotate PDF turns every page of a PDF, or only the pages you list, by 90° or 180°. It fixes scans that came out sideways, wide tables printed across a portrait page, and sheets fed into the scanner upside down.
Only each page’s rotation setting is changed. Text, images, links, form fields and bookmarks are kept as they are, and the whole edit happens in your browser — the PDF isn’t uploaded.
How to rotate pages in a PDF
- Drop a single PDF on the upload area, or click it to choose one. The file list shows how many pages it has.
- Under Rotation, choose 90° clockwise, 180°, or 90° counter-clockwise.
- Under Pages, keep All pages, or choose Selected pages and type the pages to turn in “Pages to rotate”, e.g. 2, 4-6.
- Click Rotate PDF. A rotated copy downloads with -rotated added to its name, so contract.pdf becomes contract-rotated.pdf.
Situations where rotating pages helps
- Scanned paperwork: pages that went through the scanner the wrong way round or were photographed sideways.
- Landscape pages: turn the few wide charts or spreadsheets in a report so they read properly on screen.
- Before submitting: make sure a portal, client or teacher sees upright pages instead of a file they have to turn themselves.
- Before combining files: get every document facing the same way, then join them with Merge PDF.
Tips for rotating only the pages you need
- Note which pages are sideways in your PDF viewer first, then list just those — every page you leave out stays as it is.
- Pages needing different turns? Rotate one group, then load the -rotated file and rotate the next group.
- In the page box, 3 is one page, 2-5 is a run and 8- goes to the last page; a page typed twice is still turned only once.
- To save the corrected pages as a separate file afterwards, use Split PDF.
Which way the pages turn
Clockwise or counter-clockwise?
Clockwise is the direction a clock’s hands move. If the top of the text points to the left, the page needs 90° clockwise to stand upright; if it points to the right, choose 90° counter-clockwise. Text that reads upside down needs 180°.
Rotation adds to what’s already there
A PDF page can already carry a rotation setting. The tool adds your choice to it rather than replacing it, so a page that is already turned 90° and gets another 90° clockwise ends up at 180°.
If a page lands the wrong way, load the rotated file and turn it again — four quarter turns bring a page back to where it started.
Rotate PDF: common questions
Does rotating a PDF reduce its quality?
No. The page content isn’t redrawn or recompressed — only the instruction telling viewers which way up to show each page changes. The PDF is written out again when saved, so its file size may differ slightly from the original.
Is the rotation permanent?
It’s saved in the new file, so any PDF viewer, printer or website shows the pages turned. Your original file isn’t touched, and you can always rotate the copy back.
Can I rotate a single page?
Yes. Choose Selected pages and type that page’s number. Every other page is left alone.
Why does it say my PDF is password-protected?
Any encrypted PDF is refused, including some that open without a password but restrict editing. Remove the protection first and add the file again. A file marked as not readable is usually damaged or isn’t a real PDF.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The PDF is read, edited and saved by your browser, and the rotated copy goes straight to your device. Other PDF tools on the site keep files on your device in the same way.
